Northgate’s Wild West Train @ Northgate Mall

Giddy up and take a ride to the American frontier on the Northgate Wild West Train! A local cowboy favorite, the Nothgate Wild West Train is a staple of summer fun for young buckaroos and older partners alike.
Trains leave the station during the following hours:
Thursday-Saturday 12-7pm
Sunday 12-5pm
Monday 12-7pm

Train tickets are $3. Be sure to check out the fun Wild West accessories available for purchase.

Up Close @ Hillsborough Gallery of Arts

Come see paintings by Linda Carmel, textiles by Alice Levinson and sculpture by Lynn Wartski beginning on June 26 through July 23. The opening reception will be during Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk on June 30th from 6-9pm.

Founded in 2006, the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is owned and operated by 22 artists and features painting, sculpture, photography, glass art, jewelry, wood, pottery and fiber art.

Hours are from 10am-6pm Monday through Thursday, 10am-9pm Friday and Saturday and noon-4pm on Sunday.

UNC REX Healthcare Community Forum for Holly Springs Community Hospital @ Holly Springs Town Hall

UNC REX Healthcare will hold a community forum on Wednesday, June 28, at the Holly Springs Town Hall to collect feedback on the new community hospital that’s planned for Holly Springs. Input from residents of southern Wake County is crucial as planning accelerates for the new 50-bed hospital that will be built on UNC REX’s Holly Springs campus at 781 Avent Ferry Road. The new hospital is expected to open in 2020.

Dr. Jane Williams: ‘Mysterious Moments: Thoughts That Transform Grief’ @ The Regulator Bookshop

Dr. Jane Williams will be at the Regulator Bookshop for a reading from her recently published book, ‘Mysterious Moments:  Thoughts That Transform Grief’The book is based on 10 narratives of individuals who, in the midst of grief, experienced transformative thoughts that alleviated their suffering.  Written for a broad audience of readers including individuals in grief, counselors and lay readers, the narratives offer an opportunity to better understand a process that touches all of us and increases our compassion—it also offers hope.

Dr. Williams earned her Ph.D. at the University of Memphis with postdoctoral fellowships at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Harvard Medical School. She recently retired from Wake Forest Medical School where she was a clinical psychologist working with individuals who had experienced trauma, life threatening illness and grief.

Known for her exacting rigor and mesmerizing precision, “Bessie” award–winner Beth Gill makes choreography that is spare yet playful, stark yet beautiful. In Brand New Sidewalk, Gill teams up with composer Jon Moniaci and lighting designer Thomas Dunn to create a sparse and elegant diptych born of questioning the value of formalism in dance. This evocative new piece for four dancers explores themes of alienation, erasure, fantasy, and power through the lens of abstraction.
