During Mayor Bill Bell’s final State of the City address, held at Bay 7 at American Tobacco Campus, Durham’s mayor of 16 years shared his thoughts on the city’s past, present and future. Gerald Owens of WRAL prompted the mayor in an interview during a lunch catered by the Angus Barn. Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Geoff Durham spoke on the economic and developmental future of Durham. John Roos of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina then announced a $25,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties in Mayor Bell’s honor.
At the end of the luncheon, Durham Magazine presented Mayor Bell with the first William V. Bell Civic Award, which will be given annually to recognize a Durham citizen committed to civic engagement.
